There are no definitive rules to makeup, only things that “enhance the look”, because that’s what makeup does as a whole. If, however, you’re stuck and needing a plan to follow:

this is the general 6 step process most makeup routines involve!

If you’re feeling like your makeup doesn’t come out like the professionals, you might be lacking: a properly hydrated clean canvas, topped with an SPF, color corrected before general product application. Be sure to blend your cream or powder contour down the nose and around the eyes, for a cohesive transition. If you opt for predominantly powder products, your liquids MUST go first.

Remember, there are no rules to makeup, but proper order makes all the difference in achieving a seamless blend.

If you’re traveling light, you might want to ensure you pack your shadow primers, multipurpose shadow/blushes, and at least one contrasting shimmer shadow you can slap onto the eyes and brow bone, adding that extra highlighting dimension. My professional opinion is that brushes are better than blenders - but the tea is puffs blend concealer and drop powder THE BEST.

I always misplace or abuse a puff, so brushes just work better for an artist that treats her personal makeup bag like a trash bag... like myself?

Last but definitely NOT least, the importance of good hygiene and cleaning your makeup kit. It can make the same difference that reusing an oily pillowcase does, will only cause your skin detriment over time. ;)

I hear some girls saying “I can’t do it myself, I’m just bad at makeup”... but honestly if you just suck at it? try to grasp any understanding of color theory, because it helps! There’s no reason to be bad at it in 2025.

Shift your perspective and view your face as a canvas - it’s all about how colors come together to emphasize a focal point. That focus is determined by you, the artist. ❤️
